My first TNT group run

Hello, hello!
Welcome to my training blog! I am so excited to have the opportunity to share with you both my challenges and my triumphs as I document my road to the Rev3 Triathlon in Knoxville this May. My event will be Olympic distance which means that I will have a 0.9 mile swim (upstream!), a 24.8 mile bike and finally a 6.2 mile run.  And yes, all of these have to be done during the same day and hopefully one after the other! As you may already know, the race is not just the culmination of months of training but also months of fundraising. I am part of the Team in Training Newell Rubbermaid team and we are doing this to raise funds for cancer research and ultimately for a cure. I have pledged to raise $2,500 by March 1st. Please take a moment to visit my fundraising page.
I decided to do this race almost a month ago (for a variety of reason which I will share throughout the next few months of training) and this Sunday I completed my third full week of training. I hadn’t been keeping track of my totals but from now on I will be posting them on a weekly basis.

Swim (in miles)2.75

Run (in miles)13
Weights (in hours)3.25

As the weeks continue and my physical ability improves, I will be stepping up my work out. Don’t worry – the workout is doing a great job at kicking my butt so far!

Chattahoochee River National Park

I had the pleasure of meeting my teammates for the first time this Saturday at the south end of Chattahoochee River National Park. They include a law student who just ran her first half marathon (her name is Joy and she is also my TNT mentor), a former professional distance runner and  quite a few experienced triathletes with fancy looking bikes. While the group may sound intimidating, there are also those who are struggling to complete a mile jog without stopping. Everyone, however, is excited and challenged by the amazing opportunity given to us.

Our group run this Saturday was a brisk run ranging from 3-6 miles in length. It was a chilly 20 degrees when I arrived at 8:45 AM but it warmed up to a more comfortable 42 degrees by the time our run was over. My major breakthrough this weekend was that I was able to run and talk simultaneously. That may not sound like much but I have always been too winded during my runs to utter anything more than a grunt.  You all know how much I love to talk so just image!
Tonight will also be another first – my first team swim practice. Our head coach is a swim pro so I am looking forward to some real swimming instruction that will prepare me to brave the Knox River in May. During my next post I’ll share with you some pictures from tonight’s practice (and my new goggles!). Thank you so much for letting me share this with you. Keep coming back to check out my progress and see pictures.
Big hug ,
Amy
